Dr. Bryan Springer created a new smile for his wife, a dentist, during his American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Accreditation process. Her high lip line showed a gummy smile. To alleviate this, the periodontist did a gum lift which decreased the amount of gum showing in her smile. After healing for about 6 weeks, ten feldspathic veneers were placed to widen and whiten her smile. The lower teeth were whitened.
Orthodontics had been done as a teenager and bonded porcelain-like chips had been placed on her lateral teeth (beside each front teeth) while in college to make these teeth more proportional to the others. She had a condition known as 'peg laterals'. About 20% of the population have smaller than normal laterals or they may even be non-existent.
